The Institute of Environmental Geosciences (IGE) is recruiting a Researcher on the topic of Spatial Prioritization of Peru’s Conservation Areas (M/F), starting November 1, 2022, for a period of 12 months, renewable up to 3 years.
This postdoctoral position will focus on the spatial prioritization of areas for conservation in Peru. As part of the Global Deal for Nature, the goal is to increase the coverage of terrestrial protected areas in Peru to 30% of its territory. The prioritization was designed as a socio-ecological approach, and to integrate indicators of biodiversity, carbon sequestration and water supply and demand.
The applicant will produce maps of priority areas for conservation to complement the current system of protected areas in Peru. The results will be discussed in an iterative process with several project partners, including the Peruvian Ministry of Environment (MINAM), scientific institutions attached to MINAM, and the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS).
