The course examines how natural resources and biodiversity are increasingly being referred to as natural capital. It looks at the evolution of natural capital and ecosystem service (ESS) thinking, categories of ESS, case study examples, the advantages of an ESS approach, and critiques of using a utilitarian approach to nature.
