The University of Cambridge in partnership with Anglia Ruskin University is pleased to offer a PhD studentship available for October 2019. The studentship will be a 3-year doctoral programme and will be co-supervised by Prof Andreas Kontoleon (Department of Land Economy, University of Cambridge) and Dr Nikoleta Jones (Global Sustainability Institute, Anglia Ruskin University). The PhD student will be enrolled in the Department of Land Economy and the degree will be awarded by the University of Cambridge. Information about the PhD programme at the Department of Land Economy is found here.
This PhD studentship is part of the project FIDELIO funded by the European Research Council. A key aim of the project is to develop a model that will improve understanding of human perceptions of the social impact of protected areas in Europe. The project will collect data from several case studies across Europe. This PhD project will contribute to the development of the empirical model and will also include an in-depth exploration of social impacts of Protected Areas in one of the case studies in Greece, the National Park of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace.
The PhD project will focus significantly on the collection and analysis of quantitative data with advanced statistical techniques but it will also include the collection of qualitative data through semi-structured interviews. The successful candidate will be based in Cambridge, UK, but will also spend time in the research area in Greece. Knowledge of Greek is desirable but not essential (the project will cover the costs for interpreters/translation were needed).
