Public green spaces provide essential benefits supporting people’s health and well-being as well as triggering environmental attachment and stewardship, eventually resulting in a positive impact on the ecosystem as a whole. For these reasons, a research developed within URBAG, a larger research project at the Institute of Environmental Science and Technology (ICTA-UAB), which investigates how green infrastructures contribute to urban sustainability, aims to understand the perceived benefits people obtain from public green spaces. TWG10: Tips and tricks to combine multiple methods to assess ES and their trade-offs
Ecosystems or landscapes provide multiple ecosystems services. Sometimes the simultaneous delivery of several desired/demanded ES is not possible, strongly inhibit each other, or initiate conflict: we talk about “ES trade-offs”. On the other hand, the delivery of some ecosystem services enhance the delivery of other ecosystem services: in that case, we talk about “synergies”. A trade-off can potentially result in a conflict between users, depending on who bears the burden and who benefits from the ES supply (TEEB, 2010; Turkelboom et al., 2017). Survey of the relationships between costs, precision, and impacts of Ecosystem Services Valuation (ESV) Studies
Participate in this survey to help create a roadmap to help policy makers to balance their available resources and required level of precision to achieve maximum impact from ESV studies. To do this, a database is being created of existing studies that includes their approximate cost, precision, and impact. Authors of ESV studies can answer a questionnaire to help flesh out this database.
If you are the author of an ESV study, we are hoping that you will take the time to answer a few questions about your study. [Read more…] about Survey of the relationships between costs, precision, and impacts of Ecosystem Services Valuation (ESV) Studies
