ESP connects over 3000 ecosystem services scientists, policy makers and practitioners who work together in more than 40 Working Groups and a growing number of National Networks on all continents. ESP regularly organises World and Regional conferences and provides many Services to further enhance the application of ecosystem services for nature conservation, ecosystem restoration and sustainable management. The program and steering committees are excited to announce “A Community on Ecosystem Services 2021 Preview.” We would like to take this opportunity to engage with the ACES community on the vision and plans for ACES 2021; connect ACES to new communities with like interests; and highlight early career ecosystem services researchers. The IUCN Motion 070 Accounting for biodiversity: encompassing ecosystems, species and genetic diversity, co-led by Conservation International together with many other co-sponsors, including the governments of Costa Rica, Mexico and South Africa, passed with resounding approval, with 100% of states and 98% of NGO & indigenous people’s organizations (IPO) members voting “yes”. This is an immense step forward on accounting for natural capital following the United Nations Systems of Environmental Economic Accounting (SEEA), an internationally accepted framework for incorporating nature into national accounting systems. Do you want to contribute to better methods for modelling socio-ecological systems? Please apply at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.
This postdoc position aims at contributing such modelling work to a series of externally funded projects. The overall aim is to advance our methods for addressing socio-ecological systems. One of the projects focuses on urban food systems in Africa, another one on the adoption of alternative farming systems in Europe.
