The 11th Edition of the International Conference on “Innovation in Urban and Regional Planning” will focus on how to integrate Nature-Based Solutions in urban and regional planning processes and science. There is growing evidence that Nature Based Solutions (NBS) are strategic instruments to restore or improve the functionality of urban ecosystems toward more liveable, healthier and resilient cities. Despite their many advantages, NBS are not widely implemented because the evidence of their effectiveness is not yet sufficiently diffused among policy makers, city-planners and residents and because NBS is often overlooked due to the complexity of their design and lack of normative instruments supporting planning choices.
ESP connects over 3000 ecosystem services scientists, policy makers and practitioners who work together in more than 40 Working Groups and a growing number of National Networks on all continents. ESP regularly organises World and Regional conferences and provides many Services to further enhance the application of ecosystem services for nature conservation, ecosystem restoration and sustainable management. Partner up with ESP and join in the global effort for the future of our Natural Capital!

Ecosystem services assessment in oak forests
EcosystemEvaluation conducted a baseline ecosystem services assessment on the Hungarian sites of the LIFE4OAKForest project to reveal the current conditions of the ecosystem services found on the project areas. We carried out our assessment before the conservation management actions in order to investigate the current conditions and to be able to comparably map the overall project impact on ecosystem services after the project’s completion. We assessed biomass as a provisioning service, carbon sequestration, pest control and habitat maintenance as regulating and maintenance services. In case you are interested in the assessment results, contact us.
Forests for Water Services: A Step-by-Step Guide for Payment Schemes
The aim of this document is to provide guidance on designing appropriate and cost-effective forests for water payment schemes that support tree planting and forest management to protect and improve water quality.
The PESFOR-W COST Action has published this detailed user manual as one of the main outputs of the project. The guide is structured by the main steps involved in establishing a payment scheme, starting with identifying the water issues and how tree planting and forest management can help, managing potential disbenefits, exploring multiple benefits, followed by scheme design, monitoring and communication. Biodiversity Action Plans: a way to integrate biodiversity management into your company
The Union for Ethical Biotrade (UEBT) is part of the We Value Nature 10-Day Challenge, an action-oriented 10-day event, running from 11-24 March 2021, that will offer a series of practical sessions to help businesses take the next steps on their nature journey.
As part of the challenge, UEBT is organising a 90-minute workshop together with GNF and GIZ on how you can use the ‘Biodiversity Action Plan’ approach to take action on the ground and in your supply chains to increase positive impacts on biodiversity, including how to begin to contribute to regenerative practices that replenish natural systems.
