In its 90 years in scholarly publishing (since 1933), the Journal of the Bulgarian Geographical Society (JBGS), became the oldest geographical journal in Bulgaria with more than 930 articles and 47 volumes. In 2023 JBGS celebrates the long-lasting history of the journal in the Bulgarian academic publication process, as well as its acceptance for Scopus indexing!
Earlier, in the last months of 2022, JBGS has been accepted for inclusion in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) and ERIH+ indexing.
The Journal has international representation, as authors from Bulgaria, Serbia, Slovakia, Spain, Romania, and USA have already published their studies in JBGS. The Journal has already published a special issue “Natural heritage, ecosystem services and tourism” (Ed. Nedkov et al. 2021) about ecosystem services and their implementation with natural heritage. The papers in the special issue present innovative approaches for the development of recreational industries in Bulgaria and methodological and practical solutions concerning the application of the ecosystem approach to develop green, nature-based and sustainable tourism.
As of now, there are currently 2 permanent topical collections open in the journal, the materials for which can be published in different issues, i.e. there is no deadline for submissions. Information available here.
- “Biodiversity and ecosystem services in South-East Europe: Research challenges and application issues towards a community of practice” edited by Mariyana Nikolova and Rositsa Yaneva;
- “Regional water security issues” edited by Chad Staddon.
