1. Introduction & Objectives
Welcome to the webpage of the Public Health Thematic Working Group of the Ecosystem Services Partnership (ESP). This TWG was set up in January 2013 to facilitate dialogue between scientists and stakeholders on the connections between ecosystems and human health. Read more about our recent activities and outputs here.
The relationship between the natural environment and human health has been of interest to scientists and thinkers since classical period; Aristotle and Epicurus both pondered the appearance of disease in polluted environments and the importance of immersive experiences in nature for overall well-being. Appreciation and understanding of these connections waned in the recent past, with approaches to science and medicine that promote compartmentalised rather than integrated disciplines. Read more about our objectives here.
