In light of the COVID-19 outbreak and after careful consideration, the Conference Organising Committee, in close consultation with the ESP Steering Committee, has decided to postpone the 3rd ESP Europe Conference to 10-13 May 2021. GLF Bonn: Food systems in focus at a time of crisis
Bonn – Efforts to combat global hunger and malnutrition are increasing amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The recently published Global Report on Food Crises 2020, estimates that pre-COVID, 135 million people in 55 countries were facing acute hunger mainly due to conflict, the effects of climate change, and economic crises, according to the U.N. World Food Programme.
Yet, even before the pandemic shutdown began, more than 800,000 people worldwide did not get enough food to eat and about 2 billion people were experiencing malnutrition. The situation is becoming more severe, and U.N. projections indicate that global population will grow over the next 30 years from 7.7 billion to 9.7 billion adding more pressure to the food production system. ReNature Nature-Based Solutions Webinar
The ReNature Nature-Based Solutions Webinar will present the different typologies of nature-based solutions and interventions, and evaluate their contributions to co-benefits to biodiversity and well-being. This webinar will take place on 26 June and will include sessions on the use of indicators to identify the most effective nature-based solutions that may be applied in different urban environments, the identification of the different typologies of nature-based solutions and an associated impact evaluation framework of urban nature-based solutions. NESP Webinar: Piloting Ecosystem Accounts for the Southeastern U.S.
The National Ecosystem Services Partnership (NESP) will host a webinar on Piloting Ecosystem Accounts for the Southeastern U.S., on Thursday, 21 May 2020, 2pm-3pm Eastern Time.
Hear from Ken Bagstad (USGS), Katie Warnell (Duke University), Charles Rhodes (TBD Economics), and Marc Russell (US EPA) about a new publication that details the first effort to develop Ecosystem Accounts for the U.S. at a broad scale. The team will describe the potential for U.S. ecosystem accounting and explain their pilot accounts for a 10-state region in the Southeast. The pilot accounts address air quality, water quality, biodiversity, carbon storage, recreation, and pollination for selected years from 2001 to 2015. World Biodiversity Day 2020 will be celebrated online
On 22 May 2020 (coming Friday) we celebrate the Interational Day for Biological Diversity, kicking off the World Biodiversity Week. The International Day for Biological Diversity 2020 has the theme ‘Our Solutions are in Nature’ and for the first time will be celebrated through an online-only campaign.
