The international conference “Economic incentives that affect biodiversity” will take place on 13-16 June 2023 at the International Academy for Nature Conservation (INA) on the Isle of Vilm, Germany and will be hosted by the German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN). The event will provide a platform for exchange between experts from science, administration and civil society on subsidies, tax systems and market-based approaches both harmful and beneficial for nature conservation.
The call for contributions is open until 10 March 2023. Find out more about this event here.
Proceedings of the International Expert Workshop on Economic Aspects of Nature Restoration
Although ecosystems provide numerous ecosystem services for humanity, many have come under pressure from human intervention and are currently in a degraded or even destroyed state. In order to improve the condition of already damaged ecosystems, the implementation of suitable restoration measures as well as an efficient system of economic incentives are required to motivate stakeholders to voluntarily invest in sustainable management methods. With the proceedings of the workshop the German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN) contributes to shed light on the socio-economic parameters of restoration of degraded ecosystems in order to carefully advice recent political initiatives, to further strengthen the interdisciplinary exchange and to inform other stakeholders about economic aspects of nature restoration.

Call for participants in Communities of Practice
Within the Horizon Europe project SELINA (2022-2027) we want to establish a community of practice on biodiversity and ecosystem services (or nature’s contributions to people’s wellbeing in a broader sense) in every European member state. A community of practice (CoP) is a group of people who share a common concern, a set of problems, or an interest in a topic and who come together to fulfill both individual and group goals. CoP´s focus on sharing best practices and creating new knowledge to advance a domain of professional practice. Interaction on an ongoing basis is an important part of this. Off course we want to start from existing networks.
Our goal is to find projects that are the seeds of change in mainstreaming biodiversity and ecosystem services approaches into all kind of policy processes in different fields. [Read more…] about Call for participants in Communities of Practice
