A recently published article in Earth System Governance’ Special Issue co-authored by GreenFormation expert, Agnes Zolyomi provides an overview of a systemic analysis that assessed a century of ecosystem services and their impacts on policy. Assessing ecosystem services and assigning an economic value to them has been thought of as the silver bullet to shed light on nature’s immense value in a deepening environmental crisis. They were expected to bring the breakthrough for biodiversity prioritisation. The figures and monetary values were thought to change policy-makers’ minds to prioritise biodiversity in their agendas. To date, there has been limited research exploring how the concept of ecosystem services has impacted policy. This new study aims to provide an overview about the achieved policy impacts, enabling and hindering factors as well as lessons learnt. You can read the open access article here.

One Ecosystem selected for inclusion in the Web of Science
Seven years after its official launch in May 2016, One Ecosystem – a scientific journal closely tied to the Ecosystem Service Partnership and its community since its very beginning – has successfully completed the rigorous quality and integrity assessment at Web of Science.

4th International ESP Latin America and Caribbean Conference 2023: Registration OPEN
Registration is open for the 4th International ESP Latin America and Caribbean Conference. The conference, organised under the theme “Sharing Knowledge about Ecosystem Services and Natural Capital to Build a Sustainable Future”, will take place from 6th to 10th November 2023 in the vibrant city of La Serena, Chile. The event is organised by the Faculty of Regional Development and International Studies at Mendel University in Brno, la Corporacion Regional de Desarrollo Productivo deCoquimbo (CRDP) and the Ecosystem Services Partnership (ESP).
Request for nominations of experts to review guidance on valuing ecosystem services in federal benefit-cost analyses
The White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) is drafting an updated guidance for federal agencies around cost-benefit analysis of environmental and ecosystem services. OMB is looking for peer reviewers of the guidance and is accepting nominations for reviewers until June 15. See more details about the request.
