A recently published book by Cambridge Press, Nature Conservation in Europe edited by Graham Tucker, provides a comprehensive overview of the status of Europe’s nature, relevant threats and pressures. It also analyses the impact of human activities on ecosystems, and gives a snapshot of international and EU biodiversity policies and legislative framework.

Dr. Zhao’s lab in the UF/IFAS Agronomy Department at the University of Florida is seeking 1-2 highly creative and motivated PhD students in the areas of Geospatial Artificial Intelligence and Ecosystem Services. The successful candidates will conduct interdisciplinary research that integrates geospatial analysis with artificial intelligence to quantify and map Ecosystem Services across the continuum of urban and rural systems. The CEBioS Programme (Capacities for Biodiversity and Sustainable Development), in cooperation with UNESCO, published the EVAMAB – Guidance for the Assessment of Ecosystem Services in African Biosphere Reserves.
The EVAMAB-project addressed the evaluation of the economic value of ecosystem services (ES) in UNESCO-MAB sites from a regional perspective (Africa) and focused on sites from 4 countries: Benin, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Uganda.
