Recently, Ana Paula García-Nieto and other colleagues of the ESP Mediterranean Biome Working group published an analysis of the “Impacts of urbanization around Mediterranean cities: Changes in ecosystem service supply”. For eight European and four North African cities, we have quantified changes in peri-urban land cover, for periods of sixteen years (1990–2006) in the Northern African, and twenty-two years (1990–2012) in the European cities. Based on land cover changes and using an expert based method, we derived quantitative estimates of the dynamics in the supply of twenty-seven ecosystem services. Call for Papers in STOTEN: Ecosystem Services in a Changing Environment
This special issue explores ES oriented concepts, methodologies and models addressing environmental and socio-economic drivers of change that are responsible for alterations in ES supply, this also embraces integration of ES into risk and (cumulative) impact assessment. Contributions are horizontal to all biomes (terrestrial, freshwater and marine) and cover all geographical scales (regional to global). Submission deadline 31 July. Course: ABM2018 Agent-Based Modeling for Geographical Applications
This course (20 hours) from Università di Trento provides an introduction to the concepts of agent-based modeling, a space for discussion about using this technique to investigate geographical problems and an opportunity to learn how to build and test agent-based models with the NetLogo programming language.
