The IPBES secretariat would like to thank those Governments who submitted their proposals to nominate experts to the Multidisciplinary Expert Panel. To date, the secretariat has received 35 proposals, including 10 from African States, 3 from Asia-Pacific States, 4 from Eastern European States, 5 from Latin American and Caribbean States, and 13 from Western European and Other States. Bioengineering, stakeholder participation and ecosystem services valuation protect salt marshes in the lagoon of Venice
In the past 100 years 72% of the salt marshes of the lagoon of Venice was lost due to erosion. The EU LIFE VIMINE project successfully reduced erosion by creating biodegradable barriers of wooden fascines. Long-term protection is secured by involving local communities in protection works and ecotourism. Local society now realises that the benefits of salt marsh protection outweigh its costs.

Call for Papers Fifth Green Growth Knowledge Platform (GGKP) Annual Conference sustainable infrastructure
The Fifth Green Growth Knowledge Platform (GGKP) Annual Conference will be hosted by the World Bank on the topic of sustainable infrastructure, to stimulate research on these issues and foster interdisciplinary dialogue where relevant. This conference aims at taking stock of recent advances and research challenges. To do so, we plan to gather the best researchers in the field, both from the academic world and from more policy-oriented backgrounds, to exchange ideas and insights in a two-day conference organized at the World Bank.
