On October 6, 2021, the Department of Landscape Design and Ecosystem Management (LDEM) at the American University of Beirut hosted online a group of 50 people from 19 institutions to introduce the Lebanon National Network that will be formed as part of the Ecosystem Services Partnership. Vacancy: Education Officer at Capitals Coalition
The Capitals Coalition started a new education program that entails developing an online course on: “Redefining business value: embedding nature and people in decision-making for a sustainable future”.

NESP October Webinar: Global Earth-Economy Modeling: Linking GTAP and InVEST to address sustainability challenges
In this National Ecosystem Services Partnership (NESP) webinar, Justin Johnson (University of Minnesota) will present recent work completed with the World Bank that lays out a new model, GTAP-InVEST, that links a computable general equilibrium model from the Global Trade Analysis Project (GTAP) with an ecosystem services model, Integrated Valuation of Ecosystem Services and Tradeoffs (InVEST), to assess important sustainability challenges. Modeling the interaction between nature’s services and the global economy to 2030, this talk will discuss a range of policy scenarios available to reduce the impact of nature’s loss on economies. New paper from the National Ecosystem Services Partnership (US): Connecting Ecosystem Services Science and Policy in the Field
Conservation and provision of ecosystem services (ES) have been adopted as high-level policy in many countries, yet there has been surprisingly little application of these broad policies in the field; for example, ES are rarely considered in permit issuance or other discrete agency actions. This large implementation gap arises in part because the science that drove general policy interest in ES differs from the science needed for practical application. A better understanding of the environmental policy toolkit can guide more effective research to support agency decisions. ESP Liberia national network update
Liberia ESP National Network is partnering with a local grassroot water and sanitation organization called DAYLON Water and Sanitation, for the management of plastic wastes from the mangroves within Monrovia city and it’s environs. The aforementioned organization has agreed to render logistical services during the exercise. The exercise will commence in early October 2021. The plastic wastes will be processed into plastic bricks for construction purposes.
