The members of the Greek ESP NN (HESP) collaborated on an article regarding the Greek national agenda concerning ES. Founded in 2004, the HESP is the Greek National Network of Universities, researchers, managers of Protected Areas (PA), decision makers and other professionals dedicated to the advancement of the research and application of ecosystem services (ES) in the Greek part of the Mediterranean Basin.
The collaboration aim is to further promote research into the concept of ecosystem services and the application thereof in sustainable and equitable land and water use management in the South East Europe region. This cooperation also aims at disseminating to the research community the results of research conducted by our members. A scientific-technical committee was established to set out the objectives and roadmap towards ES research-application and the Greek MAES study. As a result, the article was authored and published in the One Ecosystem journal.
The article titled “The need for the implementation of an Ecosystem Services assessment in Greece: drafting the national agenda” is available now. It describes the goals and objectives of HESP, provides an overview of historic and current ES research in Greece and drafts the national agenda regarding ES in Greece.
