The ESP Thematic Working Group 3 on Ecosystem Services Indicators has published a collaborative paper: Key criteria for developing ecosystem service indicators to inform decision making. The paper is based on presentations and discussions held during the group’s session at the 2016 ESP EU conference, entitled ‘Ecosystem service indicators: what you measure is what you get?’.
The open access paper presents 16 criteria to consider when developing ecosystem service indicators, bundled under the categories Credibility, Salience, Legitimacy and Feasibility. Considering these criteria should result in optimal update of your ecosystem services information in policy and decision making. Finally, a checklist is presented with key aspects to consider when developing indicators.
The co-leads of TWG3 are extremely proud of this outcome, and hope to build on this and perhaps replicate the success during the upcoming session at the ESP Europe conference, on October 17th 2018.
